The yield sign on Dr Mannix Road in Salthill, which has been facing the wrong way, has been posing a grave danger to motorists and pedestrians of late.
I have noticed on a number of occasions in the past few weeks that drivers have been passing the junction without even stopping, as they can't see the yield sign.
The junction, containing a triangle, links Devon Gardens with Dr Mannix Road and leads straight on to Lenaboy Park
This afternoon I saw one car speed out onto Dr Mannix Road, and have a close shave with a car already on the road. The lady driver on the main road was startled. It was a close one. I was standing at the corner having a chat with a friend at the time.
Having realised how dangerous the situation was, we wandered over to the sign, and inspected it.
It was not set securely into the ground. A simple turn of the pole and the situation was remedied temporarily.
I am amazed that nobody reported this to the council. It simply was an accident waiting to happen. The council need to urgently get out to this junction to secure the pole and ensure the sign does not get turned around again.
