City of Arts and Sciences, Valencia
Futuristic architecture at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain
A Starship Enterprise kind of vibe
Right: That's an auditorium in the background and the Hemisferic (which houses an Imax theatre) in the foreground
This city was designed by Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela. Calatrava also designed our very own Samuel Beckett bridge in Dublin, which is similar in style to the bridge in the background here.
If you are in Valencia I recommend taking a trip out here. It's worth a walk around at least. Only enter the buildings if you want to experience an Imax cinema, a science museum or you are really into fish. One of the largest aquariums in the world is housed here. It is hugely impressive; you can see walruses, beluge whales, dolphins and lots and lots and lots of various fish. But it is expensive. To see the aquarium (Oceanografic) and the Hemisferic costs a whopping €30.80 for one adult. However, the aquarium is a vast complex with various tanks representing various marine habitats of the world, and is worth it if you give yourself a few hours to explore the huge complex. The dolphin show is also a huge draw for visitors.
You can walk under a tunnel with an enormous fish tank above you. Beware of stingrays and sharks passing right above your head!
